Author Jeff Mudgett's gripping and mesmerizing writing style makes this story a real page turner. An unnerving, humid slice of elemental horror that conjures up memories of Children of the Corn by way of George Romero. But the movie definitely delivers the good stuff.

But as they wander the strangely empty streets, an atmosphere of unease sets in: an abandoned hotel, a distress call that repeatedly echoes from a radio set, the sense of being watched...the sound of children's laughter drifting through the streets, but no adults in sight. The acting is more than solid with the highlight being this one scene where one of the adults explains how the kids became murderous. This is where this movie ultimately differs from those that do this story so ineffectively.

Perhaps the problem is that most of these movies have the kids TRYING to look evil by making mean faces, and that's just about the most retarded thing I've ever seen. He knows the basics of a horror movie but weren't inventive with the elements; as a result there wasn't any moments of surprise because if you've seen the original you know the outcome. But all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Mudgett’s self-published exploration of his notorious ancestor.
