I have been playing this album a lot since I first bought it a number of years back. アメリカン・ポピュラー・ミュージックの系譜をたどる上でも重要な作品であると言わざるを得ない大傑作。全編に漂うカントリー・フレイバーがとても心地よく、でもこれまで聴いたことのないサウンドがとても印象的で、かつどこかで聴いたことがあるような感覚を得る不思議なアルバムである。

発売当時にＣＤを買ってよく聴いていた。自分の中では、レコードからＣＤに切り替わった頃で、いきなりＣＤで買ったものとしては、かなり初期。だからかＣＤが劣化して？聴けなくなっていたので、2009年リマスタリングというＡＯＲ ＣＩＴＹ 2017 というこちらの商品を買ってみた。ブルース・ホーンズビーのライブ盤（HERE COME THE NOISE MAKERS）は、ずっと愛聴してるのだが、このアルバムを聴くのは、ほんと久しぶり。当時は、ラジオから流れてきたTHE WAY IT ISに聴き惚れて、このアルバムを購入したのだが・・・。クールな都会的な音楽を期待したら、意外にも大陸的スケールのアメリカンロックといった感じで、ちょっとガッカリした憶えがあったが、いま聴いても似たような感想かな。MANDOLIN RAINなど良い曲もあるが、先のライブ盤のようなちょっとジャズっぽいアプローチの演奏のホーンズビーの方が自分には合っている。ただ、このＣＤ、音は良くなっていると思うので、あの独特のピアノの音は沁みるようで良かった。ザ・レインジのデビッド・マンスフィールドは、マイケル・チミノの映画「天国の門」のサウンドトラック（名盤です）で大活躍した人（出演もしている）。そう思って聴くと、マンドリンの音も沁みるなあ～。音源のクレジットがなかったが、２曲のライブ曲がボーナストラックとして付いている。THE WAY IT IS は、バッハのゴルトベルクで始まるスローテンポのピアノ弾き語り。MANDOLIN RAINは、バンド演奏。良かった！！この２曲のためでも、買った価値はあった。
