Stellar variability, intrinsic as in pulsating stars and extrinsic as in binaries, plays a crucial role in many fields of astrophysics, from stellar evolution, to the distance scale, to the study of structure and formation of the Milky Way. Gaia DR3 published light curves and characteristic parameters for about 10.5 million variable sources. This number is expected to increase by an order of magnitude in DR4. The workshop will focus on the impact that Gaia is having on a number of different fields addressed by stellar variability
The workshop will focus on the impact that Gaia is having on a number of different fields addressed by stellar variability. The meeting is part of the project “Revealing the Milky Way with Gaia” (MW-Gaia) funded by a COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Union action.

How to get Sofia:
By flight:
The Sofia Airport is well-connected with most European capital cities through more than 30 flights by
the national flag carriers as well as some low-cost companies. Located in the eastern zone of the city,
the airport is only a 10 km drive from the city’s center. The public bus on lines 84 and 184 connect the
T1 and T2 Terminals of the airport with the city center.
You can use also the metro system. Metro line M4 goes from the airport Terminal 2 to the city center.
The metro stop is just next to the exit of the airport Terminal 2. It is the first stop of the metro line. It
takes about 20-30 mins to reach the center stop Serdika. The ticket costs 1.60 lv. and it can be
bought/purchased from a lady at a pay desk or from a self-service machine. No metro line stops close to
SofiaTechPark.

The number of (non-invited) participants is limited to about 40. If
there are more applications, the selection of participants will be based
on the relevance of the proposed abstract, the importance of the
workshop for the advancement of the career of the applicant as well as
diversity (in gender, country, etc). As with all COST actions,
early-career scientists are given priority.
There is some limited funding available to support participants. Our
MW-Gaia Action is following the COST organisation’s inclusiveness
policies and will evaluate requests for support against these criteria
and the applicants statement as to why their attendance at the workshop
will be beneficial to them and/or the other conference participants
