The 25-meter mesh dish at Dwingeloo (in the northeastern Dutch province of Drenthe) is the oldest purpose-built radio telescope in operation. It is operated by ASTRON (formerly SRZW, Stichting Radiostraling van Zon en Melkweg, and known in English as Netherlands Foundation for Research in Astronomy, NFRA). The Dwingeloo telescope got a new lease on life to produce the Burton and Hartmann survey of H I in the whole northern sky, with newly accurate accounting for instrumental effects. It is now in use to search for neutral hydrogen emission from galaxies hidden in visible light by the Milky Way's own dust.
