they are not selling as many albums as they used to…I think if that many fans backlashed, the Dixie Chicks were due for a backlash regardless of what they said, or the adoration of these so-called fans of there’s was hanging by a thread any way.Hey alfie, now you’re getting hypertechnical. Do you really think there wouldn’t be a backlash? The people of this country are completely within THEIR rights to boycott someone they dislike, and do you really think the radio stations won’t cater to their consumers? Thank God you were here to set me straight.John, I have been biting my tongue at you for some time. You are not an american. We have a right to say what ever you want, but people also have the right to disagree with you and tune you out.
Note that when rock stars make similar pronouncements, the reaction is not the same since their audience is more receptive to such comments. They can say anything they want, but they should’ve anticipated the backlash. According to Walsh (who was on Larry King just a few weeks ago), Kennedy kept blocking the passage of the bill by placing these ridiculous attachments, hence, blocking the legislation.
Of course liberals will eatup as gospel. Rather, I find that opposition to the Dixie Chicks represents grassroots conservative sentiment, which may be exacerbated by the ideological connotations of country music or tempered by tolerance for dissent.”This movie is pure propoganda! I see John doesn’t address well-reasoned posts, just the flamers. That’s really pathetic. You can disagree while still respecting and liking people you know.If an American or Canadian or someone disagrees with something that happens in Britain I don’t instantly decide they are a UK hater, my first thought is that they are just not happy on that certain issue.Common sense would dictate that if I guy like John Campea spends most of his waking life talking about films produced in America which are one of the key representations of US culture, he obviously is not out to bash America, he just feels strongly on this one issue..I think what the media did to them was awful. They declined and when Simons went public, Laurie David basically said (paraphrasing only slightly), “You ungrateful black man, after ALL we’ve done for you.”Maybe that’s why Simons has decided that Republicans aren’t that bad after all and is supporting Steele?… I always figured he has conservative leanings, I don’t think his staunch defence of Mel Gibson would fall into Leftist propaganda…Oh well it must be nice to be able to judge everything based on entrenched partisan lines and not issue by issue.I’ve never heard anything by the Dixie chicks so this documentary might be interesting, if it does turn out to be highly biased propaganda I can always dismiss it as such.Thats not what I was saying at all John. Recently the country musicians the Dixie Chicks were blacklisted from the radio for criticizing the president in wartime. The other two girls — I don’t know, they just sort of stand around and let the lead singer do all the talking. Now, when Bush Basging is in vogue, they retract their apology. I think NASCAR sucks. I don’t consider that great conviction on their part; I consider that being spineless and going with the wind. The lead singer talks like a Valley Girl (count how many times she uses “like” in a sentence), and is as airheaded as they come. But what you’re basically saying that oppressing free speach and censoring any opinions that don’t line up with yours is a “Right” policy? By the way, I hate country music… 80’s metal rule.John, I agree with you 100% on this. Hey, here’s an idea. thats how i feel atleast. When companies pull there advertising dollars from tv shows they find offensive, does that mean they are a nazi regime? It’s a shame we resort to the old Reuplicans v. Democrats b.s.
They think they should offend their base and that the money should keep pouring in from that base the way it always has.Their self-riteous sense of entitlement is what bothers me most about them.Dude… if you can’t tell the different between the stuff that Cruise and M. Night pulled, and someone expressing their political opinion… then I don’t know how to help you.The funny thing is… I like Tom Cruise and M. Night a lot more than I do the Dixie Chicks. And it’s funny how you call me names like “Liberal extremeist”. When we send soldiers out to die and kill innocent people in the process is when our questions ought be loudest of all. Then 3 years later they came out in a Times Magazine article and “retracted” their apology. He was mocked by every comedian in America, had ABC pull out of a Holocaust project he was producing, and my have his upcoming movie tank as a consequence of people finding his statments offensive.Yes Mel Gibson has a right to say whatever he want about anyone he want, but there are also consequences. What I find so offensive about the Dixie Chick is that they think that they’re above consequences. Look at their damn name, the DIXIE chicks. I just caught wind of the new documentary “Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing” a few weeks ago and I’ve been dying to watch it ever since. WOW! My favorite show is the shield and several media outlets won’t touch that show. Doesn’t their constitution protect freedom of speech. The folks at M&C give us this: The doc directed by “Harlan County USA” director Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck follows the female country music trio over three years while the band was under fire for publicly … Are you really that……nevermind…you obviously buy into that garbage the press sells you.By the way John, retailers always respond to consumers’ overwhelming demands..bottom line: the Chicks brought this onto themselves.Wow friggins… that was SOOOOO funny. I think that rational people would agree that as hurtful as those statements were, they are not illegal.
I’ve been called that almost as many times that I’ve been called a Right Wing nut.But do enlighten me. When DJs and talk show hosts lambasted the Dixie Chicks, they were using the same 1st Ammendment rights that the Dixie Chicks enjoyed.
Free speech goes both directions.
