All UCLA alumni, faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members are invited to participate as volunteers and bring the spirit of volunteerism to service projects across the country.

Volunteers participate at 50+ community partner sites providing critical service work, beautification, and support at food banks, parks, shelters, senior centers, schools, veterans’ facilities, and various other community organizations. It is the nation’s largest community participation event for new students, and occurs on the Tuesday of True Bruin Welcome Week in September. UCLA sent 6,800 new freshman and transfer students into the community Tuesday during its annual Volunteer Day — an opportunity for students to help out at 26 locations in LA. Six thousand incoming freshmen and transfer students boarded buses in Westwood this morning to fan out across Los Angeles for UCLA’s third annual Volunteer Day. Last September, over 6,000 volunteers participated in UCLA’s annual day of service.

An additional 660 UCLA staff members, faculty, alumni, upperclassmen and other volunteers are helping to organize and oversee the effort. Different from past years, this Volunteer Day brings exciting changes that engages more Bruins in more places than ever before. LOS ANGELES – Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) rang in the new school year by joining with UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, 300 UCLA student volunteers and the K to College non-profit organization to beautify Breed Street Elementary while dispensing over $45,000 worth of school supplies. Just imagine if you will, 55 students a minute filing through a dining hall line for two straight hours.
